Shooting Script

Over the last week we worked on a shooting script, which includes not just all the shots, but also includes hints to sound, text, music and props!

Titles Layout

October 21, 2010

By Simon Dethleffsen (69559/3250)

In relation to the Animatic, we started looking at some titles and how they can look like. We looked back on our research we did earlier this year about our genre and the titles in it, and we then sat together on Photoshop to create our own. These are the first drafts we came up with:

Here is the animatic that we created for our film and posted on Youtube:

We chose the different shots that we intend to use for our film and chose a song from the website: freeplaymusic that hosts many different copyright free songs.

Location Shots

October 19, 2010

By James Grieve (69559/3347)

The location is very important to bring across the story in the trailer and it sets the scene for very important moments. As we are filming in a boarding school we did not want all the shots to be the same so we picked out key locations in the area to give our trailer a unique and high quality feel. The shots below are all the best at emphasising the beauty of the area and adds to the romantic feel.

This shot shows the surrounding wooded areas and fields that encircle the school. As the school is in the country and not in a heavily built up area we can take full advantage of the natural beauty of the countryside. Thus being able to develop the love theme in the trailer.

This shot shows the lake with the main school building in the background. This would be a very romantic setting for a scene in the trailer as the building is very old and has a lot of character. To add to this the trees next to the lake builds on the feeling  and making the trailer more interesting on the whole.

This picture is of the entrance to the Silent Walk. It is a path that goes from the  lake to the edge of the campus. It is a perfect location for our trailer as it is very picturesque and this would bring out the romantic feeling. This would be a good location to film the main characters falling in love.

This shows the small church on the far end of the school campus at the end of the Silent Walk and it represents peace seclusion. Another great location for developing the feelings between the characters and good for setting the scene and emphasising the genre. It is a place where the characters could come and contemplate their lives.

Having the school so close to the coast is a great advantage as we can utilise the natural beauty of the Scottish coastline. This would be great for the characters to go and spend some time on the weekends when they dont have class. A chance to escape the school environement.

Narrative Theory

October 18, 2010

By Gabi Paterson (69559/3754)

To help improve our film trailer, I did some research into narrative theory. This will allow us to make sure that we are following the codes and conventions of real film trailers. Attached to this post is a mind map that I created to show my findings.

Storyboard

By Simon Dethleffsen (69559/3250)

This is the storyboard we did for our trailer. It is in form of a comic, and therefore we didn’t put any titles in or something, but we will do that in the final film!
